What Should a Person Consider When Choosing a Drug Treatment Program?

Choosing a Drug Treatment Program. There are many things a person should consider when choosing a drug treatment program, including:

  • A facility that is in-network with your insurance
  • Friendly and personable staff
  • High success rates and customer satisfaction
  • Top-quality continuity of care
  • Accredited facility and programs

Though choosing a drug treatment program that’s right for you or your loved one is important, perhaps the hardest part about recovery from addiction is taking the first step to decide to get help. Anyone that has been through it themselves or had a family member go through it knows that when addiction takes hold, it can be very difficult to break. Still, once that first move toward recovery is made with the right drug treatment program, the next steps are ready to fall right into place.,

In 12-Step programs, there is a “responsibility statement” that goes, “I am responsible, when anyone, anywhere, reaches out for help, I want the hand of [recovery] always to be there, and for that I am responsible.” This statement is also embodied in our recovery mission here at The Phoenix Recovery Center. Moreover, we offer drug treatment programs that can back it up.

When to Get Treatment

Regarding addiction, the answer to the question “When is it time to get help?” can be summed up in two ways. First, when substance use concerns start to surface, it is never too early to get help. Second, no matter where a person is in the stages of their addiction, it is never too late to get help.

Of course, the sooner that a drug treatment program is chosen, there is less likelihood that long-term symptoms and side effects of addiction will manifest (or remain). To reiterate, no matter how far along an addiction has progressed, there is always hope for recovery. There is always hope of not only turning things around and getting things back that may have been lost but also the hope of growing into a new life for the future. These are the broad strokes of why treatment is necessary.

Why Get Treatment?

The answer to the question “Why get treatment? is merely endless. The reasons for getting treatment can be broken down into two parts: The physical and the emotional.

First, it is no secret that addiction ravages the body. Addiction is a chronic disorder, which means it will only get worse unless intervention takes place. This chronic nature also means that the progression of physical and cognitive decline will continue until recovery begins.

Addiction breaks a person down emotionally. The feeling of shame and guilt associated with the inability to control or stop their behaviors can be consuming. These emotions can also lead to the development of co-occurring disorders, like anxiety and depression, which can be very serious and chronic in nature as well.

There is one more part of addiction that should never be overlooked. This is the negative, social aspect of addiction, specifically how it affects loved ones. Addiction can tear family and friends apart. Yet, it is these people that can also be relied upon when it is time to get help.

As previously mentioned, the first step of recovery is choosing to start. For the individual struggling, part of this beginning is asking for help. Then, for family members, part of this beginning is asking “if they are ready for treatment.”

When an individual is willing to get treatment, there is often a small window of time by which to act. That is why reaching out to a recovery center with a reputable drug treatment program is crucial. A good recovery center will also have intake professionals that can get the positive process of recovery started right away.

What to Look For in Choosing a Drug Treatment Program

Perhaps the most important aspect in choosing a drug treatment program is ensuring that it has the treatment modalities and specialists that are meant to specifically meet the needs of the moment. Recovery is a personal process, so a drug treatment program should match the person. There are three primary types of drug treatment programs, of which there are also countless variations and offshoots.

The first type of drug treatment program is a residential/intensive inpatient program. This program is for individuals that are struggling with more severe symptoms of addiction. Often this is the right choice for someone that has recently gone through a medically supervised detox.

The next two drug treatment programs include an intensive outpatient program (IOP) and a general outpatient program (GOP). Both of these programs can be helpful if an individual has a safe home environment to return to following treatment each day. Also, the GOP is a program that is often used to transition an individual from an IOP to greater independence in their daily life.
